Slow down or perish

Far from being the miracle cure for the crises we face, economic growth is the root cause. We do not need to produce more to mitigate climate change, eradicate poverty, reduce inequality, create jobs, fund public services, or improve our quality of life. On the contrary, this modern obsession with accumulation is a brake on social progress and a gas pedal of ecological collapse. Between producing more and polluting less, we will have to choose. This is an easy choice because an economy can prosper without growth, provided that we completely rethink its organization.
